Gregory Nabours lives and works in Los Angeles as a composer/lyricist and music director. Musical direction credits include The Color Purple, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Falsettos, Rent, The Wild Party, A New Brain, Spring Awakening, Into the Woods, Assassins, and The Full Monty. Gregory’s work on the intimate theatre production of The Color Purple earned him the 2012 Ovation Award, the LA Drama Critic’s Circle Award, the LA Weekly Award, and the NAACP Award for Best Musical Direction. Gregory is the Resident Composer and a founding member of Coeurage Theatre Company. His original song cycle, The Trouble With Words, was mounted and produced by Coeurage in 2011 and earned him the 2011 Ovation Award for Best Music and Lyrics for an Original Musical, as well as Best Musical in the Hollywood Fringe Festival. He has since been working on a musical adaptation of a popular graphic novel, The Masque of the Red Death, with celebrated graphic novelist Wendy Pini amongst other projects. Gregory was chosen to be part of the 2013 Johnny Mercer Songwriter’s Project, where he studied and wrote with Broadway greats like Andrew Lippa and Craig Carnelia, and an evening of his work was performed at the Kennedy Center as part of ASCAP’s Part of Broadway: Today and Tomorrow series in November of 2014.
